Where the rubber meets the road! Auditions on camera require rather different skills and approaches than sustained characters. Participants master the tools of the craft and apply them to camera auditioning. Sides are handed out weekly; Most sides will be shot and reviewed in class.

All other aspects of the audition experience will be covered including the initial greeting, risky choices, the imaginary partner, working with the reader, self-recording, transition from person to character, slating energy, using the lens including frame size and eye-line direction, moment-to-moment enjoyment, taking in adjustments, final moments, choosing what to wear, etc. A blueprint approach, guide and check list for auditioning will be covered.

Among the many craft elements employed are: Intention, Whys, Obstacles, Transitions, Beats and Units, physical and vocal/speech adjustments, emotional preparation, emotional homework, impactful choices, etc. Use the craft to get the job! Designed to emphasize compelling, on-camera behavior. Actors explore innovative character choices while making sure performances are real, connected and truthful. During the course of the course, four scenes will be developed and shot single camera style. The many topics covered include: Using the Camera Lens, Frame Size and Camera Angles, Making and Implementing Choices, Risking, Emotional Homework, Emotional Prep, Beats and Units, Transitions, Relishing the Moment, Enjoying the Phrase, Physical and Vocal Life, et al. Special emphasis on eliminating unhelpful, individual habits (e.g. blinking, inappropriate volume for shot size) and promoting positive qualities. Most sessions will be recorded and reviewed.

N.B. All courses progress in a logical and consecutive sequence. Furthermore, students are frequently turned away once the maximum number of participants has been reached. For these reasons, students who begin the session agree to commit to the entire session and are, therefore, financially responsible for that session.

“I want to express my immense appreciation and gratitude for all you have taught me, and I hope to continue to work with you. Your input means the world to me . . . you above all have taught me the most, and allowed me to trust what I am capable of, and pushed me to do things I was scared to do! Thank you!”
