The Character Arc

The Character Arc The Frisch Approach Los Angeles Santa Barbara

Santa Monica - 14 nights
Beginning January 28

Offers the rare opportunity to work on character progression and development, the “thruline of action” throughout an entire play or screenplay. This class provides a far more comprehensive experience of building and playing a character than is possible in the usual scene study class.

Actors tackle the multi-scene development of two different characters from two different scripts, making decisions about character needs, motivations, physical life, tone, beats and units, rhythmic variety, etc. as their characters progress and transition throughout the script. Participants explore the development of character and the nature of changing relationships.

Partners will be given or select the first set of scenes and characters before class begins so that we can hit the ground running.

Possible “rehearsal showings” during the 7th and final sessions of class.

  • Limit 12 participants
  • Fourteen week session
  • $175 per month (or 3 installments of $200)

N.B. All courses progress in a logical and consecutive sequence. Furthermore, students are frequently turned away once the maximum number of participants has been reached. For these reasons, students who begin the session agree to commit to the entire session and are, therefore, financially responsible for that session.

“The class is amazing. I love and dread the challenges, which make it all very exciting and fun. I’m learning some very, very valuable lessons.”
Jonathan Smith, Actor
